Melbourne Dynamo Reserves made it three wins from three with an impressive 4–2 victory away at Belper United, in what was an entertaining contest on the 3G surface at Leisure United.
The conditions and pitch suited both sides, with Belper fielding a young, technically gifted team. With the heat and large playing surface in mind, Dynamo initially set up in a mid-block, aiming to regain possession in central areas. However, it quickly became clear that this approach was inviting too much pressure. A tactical switch to a high press proved pivotal, immediately shifting momentum in Dynamo’s favour and leading to a string of chances.
The breakthrough came after 15 minutes. A long ball forward from Burkey caused problems, and although the defender won the initial header, Muir reacted quickest to collect the second ball. He laid it off to Baines, who delivered a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Brobbey. The forward made no mistake, calmly slotting past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
The lead, however, was short-lived. Straight from the restart, Dynamo were caught off guard as Belper worked the ball neatly through midfield. Their striker showed composure to wrong-foot Burkey and bring the hosts level.
Dynamo responded well and began to assert control. On the half-hour mark, they regained the lead when Sahota picked up possession on the edge of the area. His long-range effort took a deflection, looping over the goalkeeper and into the net.
At half-time, the message was clear: maintain the high press despite the demanding conditions, with fresh legs available from the bench.
The second half saw Dynamo take firm control. On the hour mark, Muir showed great strength and skill down the flank, beating his man before delivering into the box. Although the initial cross was cut out, Heard reacted quickly to guide the loose ball into the far corner, making it 3–1.
The game was effectively sealed ten minutes later. Substitute Bentley capitalised on a loose ball from a corner, showing excellent control with his knee before firing home from close range.
Belper managed a late consolation, but they rarely threatened after the break. Dynamo saw the game out comfortably, continuing their strong run of form and building valuable momentum heading into the final fixtures.
