Melbourne Dynamo produced a superb performance to claim all three points with a 3-1 victory over second-placed Selston in an entertaining afternoon of football.
The Dynamos kicked off wearing their traditional black and blue stripes, while the visitors lined up in a full yellow strip. Both sides started brightly, with Selston looking dangerous early on.
On 27 minutes, Selston nearly broke the deadlock, but Melbourne goalkeeper Tom Cox produced a brilliant save to deny them, pushing the ball away and conceding only a corner. It was a crucial moment that kept the scores level.
Just before the break there was a long stoppage in play after Bodil went down injured, briefly halting the tempo of the match.
Moments later Melbourne found the breakthrough. A scramble in the box caused chaos in the Selston defence, and it was number 5 Elliot Dawson who reacted quickest, getting the decisive touch to send the ball into the back of the net and give the Dynamos the lead heading into half time.
The second half could hardly have started better for the home side. Five minutes after the restart, Isaac Gosling doubled Melbourne’s advantage with a well-taken goal, sending the home crowd into celebration and putting the Dynamos firmly in control.
Jack Griffiths adding a third for the Dynamo
Selston pushed to get back into the match, but Melbourne remained organised and disciplined, protecting their lead and seeing the game out professionally.
At the final whistle it was a memorable result for Melbourne Dynamo, who secured an impressive 3 - 1 win over second-placed Selston and took a valuable three points.
A fantastic afternoon for the Dynamos and their supporters — and attention now turns to Wednesday, when the team will look to carry this momentum into the next match.
