Melbourne Dynamo 9-3 Mickleover Reserves
After a stop-start few weeks due to postponements, the First Team were back in action at home to Mickleover Reserves in the quarter-final of the Derbyshire Cup.
Two changes were made from the draw at Wirksworth Ivanhoe; Will Dean replace Cox between the sticks and Dylan Muir made his first start up front since September 14th after injury.
After a slow start and shakey first 5 minutes, the deadlock was broken as Muir played Goodband in one-on-one with the keeper and he finished well low to the keepers right. Dynamo doubled their advantage soon after, as Griffiths played in Withers down the right who again finished smartly. The goals were coming thick and fast and it was all too easy for the home side to get at Mickleovers back line. In a carbon copy of his first goal, Withers made it 3 then completed his hat trick after some smart play from a short corner between Trivett and Griffiths.
The away side pulled a goal back after a smart finish from their centre-mid, but normal service was resumed in a devastating first half display as Withers grabbed 2 more and Goodband his second to see the scoreline a crazy 7-2 at half-time.
As these things normally are the second-half was less dramatic as Nkumrah, Gosling and Bickerton were all introduced for Muir, Withers and Peverley - the formers all getting valuable minutes. Goodband went on to complete his hat-trick and then grab another for his fourth of the game. Ironically the last goal of the game went to Mickleover as they grabbed a third in what was a crazy cup match.
An impressive first-half display which blew the visitors away sees the lads into the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Cup
This week it’s more Cup action as we travel to Step 7 North side Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves in the last 16 of the League Cup.
