Gavin was unfortunately forced into early retirement at the end of the 2005-06 season due to a recurrence knee injury. A slow centre-half but good reader of the game. Not the tallest of defenders but had impeccable timing in the air, making him strong in defence and prolific from set pieces. Turned his hand to management, becoming First Team manager in 2009, having previously assisted Alan Buxton for 3 years prior to that. Favourite formation 3-4-3, and prefers a counter-attacking style of play.
