Match Report: Melbourne Dynamo Tigers U18s 2 – Aston U18s 3
Melbourne Dynamo Tigers fell to a narrow 3–2 defeat at home against local neighbours Aston in a close and competitive fixture. In contrast to previous weeks, Tigers created more chances and controlled large spells of the game - but ultimately, Aston were more clinical in front of goal. The visitors had fewer opportunities overall, yet took the ones that came their way, while Tigers were left frustrated after several good openings went unfinished.
Both Tigers goals came from set pieces. Murphy struck a well-placed free kick to bring Tigers back into the contest, before McCrae curled in another from the edge of the area to bring the teams level again. A simple long ball broke Tigers defence and Aston led yet again. Despite late pressure and sustained attacking play, Tigers couldn’t find the finishing touch their performance arguably deserved.
There were strong displays across the pitch. Turrell earned Man of the Match, effectively nullifying Aston’s key winger and showing composure and determination throughout. Docherty, again in the CDM role, provided discipline and stability in front of the defence in the second half, Carrick showed strength and speed at right back, while Williams continued to drive the team’s intent and tempo from midfield.
It was an improved performance overall, but one that ultimately slipped away through missed chances. Tigers will look to turn dominance into goals as they move into their next fixture, a repeat of today’s game in two weeks’ time.
